One thing I love about a good crossroads is that it gives you options, and navigating options is my absolute jam. THE STORY
Four seats, one throughline
I started in a classroom. In 1999 I began teaching, and I learned the first version of a lesson I've been relearning ever since: everyday people struggle. Struggle doesn’t require a debilitating mental health diagnosis. As the old folk say (and I tell my clients all the time, I’m not old folk, I just repeat what they say!), if life isn’t getting to you in one way or another, just keep on living! So, after living, and learning how people live, grow and develop, I’ve come to understand that people struggle at thresholds, in the space between who they've been and who they're becoming — with life being the bridge between the two.
So as I myself continued to live and grow, I moved from teaching to school counseling, walking with students through the crossroads of adolescence and into adulthood. Fittingly, the best position I held in my 17 years in education was a Crossroads facilitator, helping young adult students who had already had enough life happen to them to decide on which path they wanted to follow from there. Aside from the work I do now, it was my most rewarding work. And from there to here. Clinical private practice since 2015, serving couples, individuals and professionals across Texas, built on everything those first seats taught me.
Four seats — teacher, school counselor, transition counselor, clinician — and one throughline: the crossroads. It's why my practice looks the way it does. The professional whose career and marriage are wobbling at the same time. The couple about to make the biggest commitment of their lives. The person grieving a chapter that ended without permission. These moments aren't emergencies to survive — they're thresholds to cross well, with the right tools and the right company.
Today I also supervise the next generation of Texas professional counselors as they navigate their own personal and professional crossroads. This part of my work keeps me sharp and honest. Learning and growing is best done in collaboration with like-minded individuals.
Whether we meet in my Arlington office or by video from anywhere in Texas or Florida, you'll get the same thing either way: evidence-based tools, straight talk, and a counselor who has seen a lot of thresholds — and knows the way across.
